Cycling for a better climate. We participated!
From 1 to 21 July the international campaign CITY CYCLING took place again in Leinfelden-Echterdingen - a campaign by Climate Alliance, the largest municipal network for climate protection. The city Leinfelden-Echterdingen is one of many nationally participating municipalities. We as MHZ and local company are also taking part with a strong cycling team. For three weeks we want to collect as many kilometres as possible by bike and compete with the other teams.
Every kilometer counts, even with e-bikes.
The CITY CYCLING campaign is about having fun cycling, but above it is all about encouraging as many people as possible to switch using their bicycle in their everyday lives in order to contribute their personal share to climate protection. For three weeks – and hopefully even longer – we invited our employees to pedal hard and to cover as many kilometres as possible by bike for climate protection and for Leinfelden-Echterdingen. During the three-week period, we add up all cycled kilometres of the MHZ team members. It does not matter whether our employees’ cycle for private purposes or on their way to MHZ, the main thing is to promote a strong example for environmental protection together!
It was a great internal competition, we look foreward to next years' campaign.
The international competition CITY CYCLING of the Climate Alliance invites all members of the municipal parliaments to pedal as a role model for climate protection and to commit themselves for an increasing support of cycling-traffic. In a team with citizens, they are to cover as many kilometers as possible by bike for their community on 21 consecutive days between May and September. The campaign aims to sensitize citizens for cycling in everyday life and to bring the topics of bicycle use and cycling planning more into the local parliaments. Since 2017, municipalities from outside of Germany are also able to participate on 21 consecutive days between May and September! There are awards and high-quality prizes to be won - but above all a livable environment with less traffic, less exhaust and less noise.
Last year, nearly 300,000 people from 885 municipalities followed this call and covered more than 59 million kilometers by bicycle.
